slide Day 1Reykjavik Panoramic Tour | Perlan Observation Deck
Your tour departs your hotel at 2:00 PM. Discover the capital city Reykjavik on a panoramic tour, experiencing its charming architecture and beautiful, brightly-colored rooftops. Visit the Perlan Observation Deck to see magnificent 360º views of the city and its surroundings of mountain, glacier and volcano vistas. Return to your hotel for a welcome drink and canapés with your group, followed by free time for dining independently. .
Head out on the famed Golden Circle, starting with the spectacular Thingvellir National Park, a meeting place of old Icelandic clans. It is also where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet above ground. Journey to the Secret Lagoon: smaller and more intimate than the Blue Lagoon, it's where savvy travelers go to enjoy the Icelandic spa experience. Don't forget your swimsuit! Savor lunch in the greenhouse of Fridheimar Tomato Farm. Then it's on to the Strokkur Geyser, which erupts every 10 minutes. Stop at Gullfoss Waterfall, one of Iceland's most popular sights; with two separate drops, it's the one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the world. Move on to your simple but beautifully-situated rural hotel below the Hekla volcano where you'll enjoy dinner with your group. (B, L, D)
Visit the LAVA Center to learn about Iceland's volcanoes, and how their eruptions and lava flows have shaped the country over time. Visit the Skogar Folk Museum to explore Iceland's cultural heritage and learn about the lives of Iceland's early settlers through an array of tools, books, and handicrafts. Visit the nearby Skogafoss Waterfall, where on sunny days a double rainbow is often visible. Discover Reynisfjara's black sand beach and rock formations along with the legends of its history. Dine at your hotel tonight. (B, D)
Visit the Skaftafell Wilderness Area and view some of its wonders: glaciers, waterfalls, a snow-capped volcano and lava fields. Savor lunch with a view of the surrounding countryside at the Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon. Visit the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where bright blue and white icebergs dot the waters. Head to nearby Diamond Beach and marvel at glistening natural ice sculptures on the black sands. Return to your accommodation and dine independently this evening. (B, L)
Journey to the beautiful Seljalandsfoss Waterfall where, weather permitting, the sure-footed can walk the trail that takes you behind the 60-meter falls. Travel back to Reykjavik, possibly visiting any itinerary sights you might have missed due to weather. Spend the rest of the afternoon independently exploring the city. In the evening, visit the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa in a man-made lake surrounded by lava fields; relax in the heated waters before sharing a farewell dinner with your group. (B,D)

Very impressed by CIE!

The absolute best vacation I could ever have imagined! I planned to visit Iceland for my 50th birthday and specifically wanted to see the Northern Lights. CIE provided several opportunities for us to catch the lights during the entire week! We were very fortunate to catch them the very first night we arrived! The tour bus that picked us up that night brought us to the national park and helped educate our group on how to watch them, how to photograph them and what to look for in the night sky. I felt so lucky that night - my birthday night - to see the beautiful lights and magical evening. Couldn’t have been better!
I saw just about everything on my list that I wanted to see in Iceland! CIE took us to every site on my list and was amazing along the way! Our tour guide Maria was the absolute BEST and took very good care of us and worked hard to make our experiences the very best they could be each and every day! We toured Reykjavík (saw the Höfdi house, Viking sun sculpture, famous hot dog stand, stayed at the beautiful Fosshotel Reykjavik), drove to the Reynisfjara black sand beach, city of Vik, Diamond Beach, we even saw Iceland ponies!!, Glacier Lagoon, Waterfalls, and the most wonderful lunch at the Fridheimer tomato farm! That was my favorite! I was not looking forward to the Lava center but it ended up being one of my favorite stops! FANTASTIC!! Secret Lagoon was wonderful and happy I got to visit it and we loved every minute at Blue Lagoon. All of the hotels chosen were wonderful, beautiful and absolutely amazing. We loved it ALL! And CIE made it so easy to move from hotel to hotel, they were with us for the transfers to/from airport and we were just so happy not to have to drive in the weather. It was all arranged for us and gave us the time to just to sit back and relax and enjoy the beautiful land!

Our first tour. Great trip, tour guide & driver. Everyone - Go to Iceland!

CIE was recommended to us by a family member a couple of years ago & this was our very first tour ever. Other than wanting to see the Northern Lights, we didn't really know what else to expect.

That being said, we enjoyed our trip and learned a lot about the people and the country. Iceland is a very interesting place, especially in wintertime.

We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights. However with the naked eye, they are somewhat underwhelming. People with good cameras were taking pictures that revealed more vibrant colors. It was still a wonderful phenomena to experience.

We only had one CIE negative. Our CIE arranged driver who was to take us to the airport for our return flight was a no-show. We called the CIE office, but no one answered. A cab cost us $121.42 which we are going to address with CIE about reimbursement in the near future.
